Why do I need this medicine?
Measles vaccine helps protect your child against measles infection.

Measles is a very contagious viral infection that spreads in the air through sneezing and coughing. Its symptoms include runny nose, cough, sore throat, fever, white spots inside the cheeks and rashes all over the body.

This vaccine helps your child’s body to make its own antibodies (substances in the body that fight against infection) to protect your child against this infection.
How do I use this medicine?
Measles vaccine is to be injected subcutaneously (into the fatty layer under the skin, usually in the upper arm or thigh).

A doctor or nurse will administer the injection for your child.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Ensure that you keep all appointments with the doctor so that your child do not miss any immunisations.

If you miss an appointment or an injection, alert your child’s doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use this vaccine if your child ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Measles Vaccine.

Alert the doctor if your child has the following conditions:
  • very weak immune system
  • sudden illness with high fever
  • cancer
  • lung infection known as tuberculosis or TB
  • HIV infection
as this vaccine may not be suitable for your child.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform the doctor if your child has a history of brain injury or of fits or seizures.

Inform the doctor that your child was recently immunised with Measles vaccine before any blood transfusion or before receiving other blood products.

If your child is going for any laboratory test, inform the doctor that your child was recently immunised with Measles Vaccine.
What side effects could I experience?
Measles Vaccine may cause any of the following side effects: cough, diarrhoea, fever, reddening or pain at the injection site.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert the doctor quickly if your child experience any of the following:
  • signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes
  • fits or seizures accompanied by fever
  • bleeding or bruising
Inform the doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if your child experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor if your child is taking medicines for cancer or medicines used in organ transplant or certain immune disorders.

Always notify the doctor and pharmacist if your child is taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in the refrigerator. Protect from light.

Keep away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
