Measles vaccine helps protect your child against measles infection.
Measles is a very contagious viral infection that spreads in the air through sneezing and coughing. Its symptoms include runny nose, cough, sore throat, fever, white spots inside the cheeks and rashes all over the body.
This vaccine helps your child’s body to make its own antibodies (substances in the body that fight against infection) to protect your child against this infection.
Measles vaccine is to be injected subcutaneously (into the fatty layer under the skin, usually in the upper arm or thigh).
A doctor or nurse will administer the injection for your child.
Ensure that you keep all appointments with the doctor so that your child do not miss any immunisations.
If you miss an appointment or an injection, alert your child’s doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.
